The fight for a place in the IPL 2023 playoffs is heating up, with Gujarat Titans leading the pack and likely to secure a spot with a win against Sunrisers Hyderabad on Monday. SRH, however, will also be looking to stay alive in the competition with a win. The possibility of multiple teams ending up with 14 points after the league stage means that net run rate could become a deciding factor.
In Sunday’s doubleheader, Royal Challengers Bangalore dominated Rajasthan Royals, winning by 112 runs and improving their net run rate to move up to fifth place on the table. RCB’s chances of making the playoffs will depend on the outcome of their remaining two matches against SRH and Gujarat Titans.
The defeat against RCB has put Rajasthan Royals’ playoff hopes in jeopardy, as they can only manage a maximum of 14 points, which is unlikely to be enough to secure a spot. Lucknow Super Giants and RCB are currently ahead of them in the standings, while Mumbai Indians have already accumulated 14 points with two matches remaining.
LSG have 13 points from 12 matches and will face Mumbai Indians and Kolkata Knight Riders in their remaining fixtures. With Gujarat, Chennai, and Mumbai occupying the top three spots, the race for the fourth team is expected to be intense between RCB and LSG.
The Delhi Capitals, led by David Warner, are the only team to have been eliminated from the playoffs race so far.
